| In recent years laparoscopic nefrectomy (complete resection)
because of kidney tumor becomes world standard. Such practice is applied not only in the specialized centers, but even in ordinary hospitals, where high-experienced doctors manage such technique as well. However, usage of laparoscopic technique allows to execute more complicated interventions such as kidney resection (partial resection).Complication of such intervention consists of necessity to preserve intact kidney part, avoiding serious affections as bleeding or urinary tracts damage. Only high qualified surgeons, who work at specialized centers and have great experience in execution of laparoscopic operations, are capable to perform it at appropriate level. Dr. Nadu, Chief of Urology Department of Sheba Medical Centre (Israel) is exactly such surgeon. He is one of the top specialists who are involved in LISSOD activities. There were already several unique operations in Ukraine managed by him at LISSOD. At the end of August doctor Nadu has successfully executed first kidney laparoscopic resection in Ukraine.62-yearold female patient was hospitalized at LISSOD, diagnosed tumor of single (solitary) kidney (the second one was removed before). It was detected that tumor was small in size and located in upper pole of kidney. Entirely removing kidney with the tumor would mean life-long invalidization and necessity of kidney transplantation. That’s why taking into account all pros and contras, the tumor-board team, consisted of oncologists, surgeons and urologists decided to execute kidney laparoscopic resection as the least traumatic way of intervention. The surgeon was ready to conversion, i.e. to change over into open operation in case of technique implications. The main goal was not just adequate tumor removing, but kidney preservation. Fortunately, operation was completed successfully without any technique complications. Dr. Nadu has perfectly managed his task, having punctually separated tumor. Kidney blood circulation didn’t even stop, although technique of operation foresaw temporally cross-clamping and operation in “non-productive” organ. Such cross-clamping is more comfortable for surgeons and can simplify the operation, but increases the possibility of kidney failure in early postoperative period. The surgeon has found vessel that directed to tumor and clamped it. Moreover the surgeon managed to save single adrenal. Such action afforded to invade long-life usage of hormones, which produced by adrenal.
Postoperative period went on smoothly. At the second day the patient went up and walked through the room. Functions of intestine’s work were resumed at the second-third day. The patient was discharged at home at the sixth day. According to the histology testing of removed tumor it appeared benign tumor. It means the patient can be considered fully recovered. Rhaphes were taken over at the eighth day. Now the patient leads active life and is totally satisfied with the results of operation and treatment.
