Irradiation therapy is an effective method of cancer treatment. Genetic information of malignant cells is destroyed in the process of exposure of tumor to radiation, and the tumor dies. Actively dividing tumor cells are the most vulnerable; therefore the radiation produces stronger damage of such tumors. However, part of malignant cells can be in the dormant state (interphase) at the moment of irradiation. Therefore the process of radiotherapy takes several sessions. Single session and summary doses of radiation are selected by the doctors in such manner as to achieve the maximal influence on tumor with minimal damaging of the healthy tissues.

Why LISSOD?

Usage of modern linear accelerators, which has specific attributes:

  • Wide choice of powers and operating modes, which provides individual approach to each patient. Depending on the kind of malignant tumor, its location and many other factors, our equipment allows choosing the most effective mode of irradiation and due to it achieving the positive results of treatment;
  • Possibility of making the radiation fields highly conformal with the shape of tumor. It allows directing the maximal doses of radiation to the tumor, and minimizes negative influence on the healthy tissues;
  • Computer monitoring system of the radiation parameters ensures exact accordance of actual parameters to the values, determined during the treatment planning for individual patient. It results in the fact that irradiation is provided in several stages, it is the computer monitoring of all parameters that guarantees for each patient exactness and identical character of all settings during each irradiation session. It is essential, since in this condition the tumor receives the necessary radiation, which kills the cancer cells;
  • Verification of settings correctness, made on the control board of accelerator, excludes any possibility of human mistake.

Pre-radiation preparation of the patients:

Radiation treatment simulation based on computerized tomography permits to achieve three-dimentional (3D) image of tumor and healthy organs.

  • 3D planning with application of computerized planning system. It enables effective tumor radiation and minimizes irradiation of healthy organs. Modeling the process of irradiation is resulting in calculation of the probable doses and radiation effect. During computer modeling an experienced team of medical physics in cooperation with doctors calculates exactly the doses, necessary for tumor irradiation. Thus they can make precise forecast on the irradiation effect;
  • The team of highly qualified radiation oncologists, technicians, medical physics and electronic engineers, who have undergone studying and training abroad.

All these components are the result of daily routine work of our team. Combination of experienced doctors, international standards and modern equipment provides the patients with effective treatment in LISSOD.

Brachytherapy
Brachytherapy is a type of radiotherapy, where the source of radiation, located inside the patient’s body, is introduced into the cavities, directly in the tissues or put in contact on the body surface.
Distance therapy
Distant therapy is a kind of radiotherapy, when radiation source, which is used for treatment, is located outside the patient’s body and the object of radiation is located in some distance from the source of radiation.
