Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit is one of the structural departments of the LISSOD hospital. Its primary goal is to provide safety and comfort while performing surgical interventions as well as invasive, potentially painful procedures (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, and biopsy). Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit is equipped with modern monitoring facilities: 1. monitors, capable to reflect critical parameters of a cardiovascular and respiratory systems of a patient; 2. respiratory equipment, providing adequate ventilation of lungs either during an operation or in a postoperative period. Operation rooms have special equipment, which allows warming up not only intravenous solutions, but also the patient, which, besides comfort provision considerably reduces the appearance of postoperative pneumonia (even in case of long-lasting operations). A brand new approach to providing anesthetic procedures (anesthesia and its forms) during surgical interventions is applied in the department. It implicates the usage of regional (epidural) anesthesia methods during the operation - as a component of general anesthesia, and in postoperative period - as the treatment of postoperative pain syndrome. This approach allows reducing the patient's postsurgical recovery period, creates the most comfortable conditions for the patient's full recovery and considerably decreases the frequency of postoperative complications. Next morning after surgery practically all patients are capable themselves to move from the intensive care unit to a ward in the surgical department. Moreover, the intensive care unit hosts patients suffering from acute failure of organs and systems and requiring intensive therapy. Besides, patients who require continuous observation in early postsurgical period are located in the unit. The department is equipped with modern and functional facilities required for working with patients in a grave condition. There is a twenty-four-hour nurse's observation station. The department staff constant controls all functions of the patient's organism. All the necessary laboratory tests can be provided any time. Anesthesiologists and intensivists have great work experience in the intensive care units of multi-field hospitals and manage all required diagnostic methods and algorithms of dealing with seriously ill patients. Individual approach with consideration of patient's condition and his specific features, availability of highly qualified medical staff, possibility of providing complicated and long-lasting surgical interventions for patients of various ages, even in case of severe concomitant diseases, - all this composes work standard of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit at LISSOD hospital. |
