Breast cancer is the most widespread women cancer disease. Nowadays, at an average, in every second family there is a woman who is suffering from this disease. Every half-hour breast cancer is diagnosed with one woman in Ukraine, which is on the latest stages, alas, in 85% cases. Every hour one woman dies of this disease in our country. Definition of the symptoms of breast cancer (BC) on early stages allows oncologists to carry out effective treatment. At present X-ray mammographic screening has occupied the distinguished place and is acknowledged as “gold standard” in diagnosing symptomless or non-palpable tumors as well as other diseases of mammary gland, leading to breast cancer.

In LISSOD hospital there is effective system of examination and treatment of malignant and benignant formations of the mammary gland. It is based on modern approach and integration of modern radiodiagnostic methods. In some cases the methods and the equipment used in LISSOD are unique in Ukraine and often allow avoiding operations on removal of part or the whole of mammary gland.

In LISSOD Mammary Gland Disease Department we use the most up to date equipment.

Hologic Lorad mammograph is a special low-dose X-ray device for examination of mammary glands in various projections. The main advantages of this device are the following:

  • high resolute ability and possibility of large zooming, which allows finding out even the smallest deviations from the norm;
  • rotective filters, low-dosage load protects the patient from negative influence of X-ray radiation;
  • there are no limitations of the breast volume;
  • possibility of conduction of the special studies (ductography, marking of formations under X-ray control, control of biopsy and operational materials and other).

Ultrasound diagnostic device is equipped with a special sensor, “doppler” mode, 3D – visualization gives an opportunity to get more reliable information about probable formation. There is an option of recording study on CD.

Lorad Multi Care Platinum, the complex for stereotaxic biopsy which is unique in Ukraine, is used for investigating non-palpable and/or X-ray contrast formations of any size. Obtaining the material for histological study is carried out under X-ray control in the outpatient setting and with local anesthesia. Accuracy of biopsies carrying out in our complex is automatically controlled by the computer in the spatial coordinates system.

Vacuum aspirator is used both with the complex for stereotaxic biopsy and independently for removal of benignant solid masses (fibroadenomas) with diameter up to 1.5 cm and appears an alternative for surgical removal.

Advantages for benignant firm formations removal in LISSOD:

  • "cosmetic” character and small invasiveness the procedure is carried out through small incision;
  • painlessness: it is carried out under local anesthesia;
  • absence of deformation and scars on a mammary gland, which simplifies further diagnostics;
  • possibility of histological diagnostics and even complete removal of small benignant formations.

Usage of the complex for stereotaxic biopsy in combination with modern vacuum aspirator allows not only localizing any pathological formation of the mammary gland with absolute accuracy. With this complex we are able to investigate suspicious formations and remove them when necessary.

Procedures

Combination of our doctors’ experience and modern equipment allows carrying out the whole list of diagnostic and medical procedures for mammary gland checkup.

Basic procedures:

  • Mammography;
  • Mammary gland ultrasound examination.

Special procedures:

  • All types of biopsies:
    • Aspiration (obtaining material for cytological examination);
    • Core biopsy (obtaining the material for histological examination);
    • Stereotaxic biopsy.

  • Marking of formations:
    • Tissue marker while undergoing chemotreatment
    • Before the operation (for facilitation of discovery of small or not palpable masses)
  • Ductography;
  • Vacuum aspiration of benignant formations without operative intrusion;
  • Aspiration of cyst.
