In 1994 Sergey graduated from the Poltava Medical University with distinction, then passed clinical internship at the St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education at the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Immediately upon completion of residency in 1997 he defended his Candidates dissertation on the topic: "Methodological Aspects endovideosurgical organoanastomoz formation in portal hypertension.
